- Scott Rolen is a fraud. I don't like to be happy when an athlete fails, but one of the exceptions is Rolen. Rolen was so negative in Philadelphia, it seemed like he never wanted to be here at all. Whined about the turf at the Vet. Whined about playing on Sundays. Whined about the fans. Whined about the ownership. Rolen forced the Phillies hand, turning down more money than he is currently making to play in STL. Put up monster numbers as a Redbird, but folded like a little chicken in the end.
- I'm also glad the Colorado giving away Larry Walker to the best team strategy didn't pay off. Walker was great in the LCS but no help in the WS.
- Derek Lowe should go to the Yankees in the offseason. Epstein and upper management didn't seem to value him enough for closing out three series' and pitching brilliantly to boot. I was very excited back in July when a rumor popped up that Lowe could have been traded for Kevin Millwood. Oh, Millwood is terrible.
- Pedro showed some magic in Game 3. It should be enough to drive his asking price too high to stay in Boston.
This "cursed" sports town, the one I live in, the one that hasn't had a champion since 1983, keeps talking about the Eagles and their chances this season. I believe in the Eagles, but right now I am interested in the local NBA team. The Sixers will sit Glenn Robinson on the bench and start rookie Andre Iguodala next week in Boston when the season opens. This is a shocking development.
Just an outside opinion, but Robinson strikes me as a guy who kinda just has to have it his way. I'm looking for a few early season "injuries" before a mid-season trade if the Big Dog is not in the lineup. Jim O'Brien seems to want to play everyone, or at least give everyone in the rotation a decent number of minutes. Preseason means nothing, but the Sixers were still 6 0r 7 and 1, and that is at least some good karma. I'm very interested to see how this team breaks in the first ten games. Staying healthy is a must for any team in any sport to win, but the Sixers really took an injury beating last season. Depth will steal away some wins, and my prediction is the 6 seed in the playoffs, and that is total credit to O'Brien and to Iverson's abilities as a veteran at the point.
